Hurricane Helene has caused widespread devastation in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas, leaving countless families in need of urgent assistance. Rotary Zones 33 and 34 are responding swiftly, and your support is crucial in helping the hardest-hit areas. Please use the donation link below to contribute to recovery efforts. Jim Pockross was the first to suggest we use our club meeting collections to send some funds to help this relief effort. We have only collected about $400, so if anyone would like to up that amount before we send it, you can do so at the next club meeting, or donate directly to Hurricane. Former Harbor Club members may remember the name Ladd Waldo -- he was a member of the Harbor Club and is now coordinating this relief effort in Florida.

Rotary International has declared October 24 to be World Polio Day. Our club was well represented at two locations this year. We were at the French Market and the Jewel at Plaza del Lago in Wilmette on Saturday, October 26. Frank Hussey has organized this event with Debora and Heidi (ably assisted by George Pearce) at the French Market, and Frank Cheswick and Ben Ivory were at the Jewel to talk about the End Polio Now campaign and collect donations. We collected approximately $700 between on line and in person donations!

Walk for Warmth on Monday, January 20, MLK Day
Please join us for Interfaith Action of Evanston’s Walk for Warmth on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 20th. Walking together, we are a physical embodiment of Dr. King’s vision of the beloved community. His commitment to service is reflected in the route we take past the many faith communities that house Interfaith Action’s overnight shelter. Whether in person or in spirit through a donation, you can help raise awareness and provide a warm, safe, and welcoming place for our unhoused neighbors to sleep on cold winter nights.
For more information, to register to walk and/or donate, go to the Walk for Warmth 2025 website. There is no charge to register. When registering as an individual, you will get an opportunity to indicate which team you will be walking with. Please select the Rotary Team. It includes the Evanston Rotary Clubs and the Wilmette Club. We will have the opportunity to carry a Rotary sign and walk the route together.
Gathering is at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 516 Church Street (corner of Church & Hinman). Sanctuary entrances are on Church across from the City parking garage or Hinman.
The Walk starts after the program. New this year: Supporters may opt for the traditional 2-mile walk past eight of the faith communities that host Interfaith Action's overnight shelter in rotation, or a short around-the-block walk. If you do not wish to walk, you are welcome to remain in the Sanctuary after the program and "walk in spirit". The event concludes by 1 PM.
