Weekly Update
Last Week's Social Evening

Club Member Chuck Heller provided a fascinating presentation "Tales From A Car Guy".  The presentation was filled with history, family adventures, and examples of beautiful engineering.  You didn't have to be a car buff to enjoy the presentation.  Thank you Chuck for an excellent evening and we hope to get a ride in one of your beautiful cars sometime soon.   We have a recording of the presentation for those who weren't able to attend.

This Week's Speaker

Lisa Wilkerson - Discussion on Racism

Lisa will share her own personal experience with racism and discrimination.  She will share her insights into the current cultural shifts, Black Lives Matter, and what all of us can do to support a unified community.

Lisa prefers to speak without slides to make it more conversational. We would love to present some questions ahead of time so that Lisa can weave some of your topics into her discussion.  Please submit your questions for Lisa by Monday, Sept 7 to bdewall@comcast.net.

Beth DeWall and Corinne McClinitic have done a wonderful job with the Pasek Garden this year.  If you get a chance, stop by.

George Pearce was on the job at the New Pollinator Corridor (West Lake Street)  this week doing some new planting.

Watch for more information regarding a Community Clean-Up Event Tentatively scheduled for Sunday, September 27 from 12 noon to 2 pm.
Community Assessment Project
Our club is planning to undertake is a community needs assessment.  This project will be done jointly with the noon  Wilmette  Rotary Club.  The plan is to interview key people in the community to get their perspective on community needs that are not being met.  It is hoped that we will uncover some needs and can develop a joint service project with the noon club to address those needs.

The  community leaders or organizations we plan to contact include:

The Wilmette Village Manager
The head people in the two school systems
The Park District Director
The League of Women Voters
The Wilmette-Kenilworth Chamber of  Commerce
North Shore University Health System
The  Wilmette Police Chief
The  Family Service Center
New Trier Township
Possibly religious leaders representing all denominations

There are two questions for members that we need  your input on:

1.  Are there any other key people that would provide helpful input, not on the list?

2. We hope to interview people from these organizations (one from our club and one from the noon club).  Do you have an interest in conducting any of the needs assessment interviews?

Please let Corinne McClintic or Jim Pockross know.
