September 16 Program - Sarah Homan

Rotarians attending the September 16 Noon Rotary meeting were treated to a very special presentation by our own member, Sarah Holman.  Sarah has co-founded the GraceNote Collective (gracenotecollective.org) a Gospel Choir "representing many faiths, spiritual practices, ages, races, nationalities, sexual orientations and gender identities."  She talked about her personal journey with respect to gospel music as well.  We hope to attend one of their concerts, possibly on Saturday, October 24!

Rain Garden Planting Rescheduled

Planting a “Rain Garden” in Shorewood Park (Forest Ave. just north of the fire station) organized by the Wilmette Park District, is rescheduled to Friday, October 9 from 9:00 - 11 am.  A Rain Garden will reduce flooding by capturing excess water to keep the park and streets from pooling.  It also provides food and shelter for bees, butterflies and birds using native plants.  Members and families are welcome to help; please Sign-up. Contact George Pearce for questions. geoknow@comcast.net

Big Book Drive Is Underway!

Big Book Drive started October 1 and will run until November 13 at all Wilmette public and private elementary schools and Loyola Academy, Regina Dominican  HS, and New Trier HS.  Start saving books for our Big Book Drive.  We will partner again with Bernie's Book Bank to collect books for under-resourced schools in Chicago, kindergarten through high school.  Contact Maurice Sullivan for more information mauricewsullivan@aol.com

2026 District Conference - Oct 2-3

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER:  District Conference: October 2-3, Westin, Itasca - The 2026 District Conference is this weekend and several of our members will be there.  This is a great opportunity to hear some great speakers, learn new ways to enhance our club's activities, meet other Rotarians from our District and generally have a good time. $99 Adult Registration

World Polio Walk - October 24- Join Us

Rotary members and friends across 11 states and 2 countries will take part in the World’s Largest Polio Walk — a powerful, visible demonstration of our commitment to Rotary’s efforts to end polio forever.  Our club will be participating with 10 other clubs from our district in the World Polio Walk on Saturday, October 24 at 10:00am at One Rotary Center in Evanston.

Why It Matters: Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for decades, reducing cases by over 99.9%. But until we finish the job, children everywhere remain at risk. This walk is our chance to stand united, raise awareness, and show the world that Rotary will not stop until polio is eradicated.

The walk will be 1.5 miles starting at One Rotary Center (rain or shine). After the Walk, walkers can retire to Sketchbook Brewery in Skokie to socialize and try out a new beer, “Purple Pinkie”, a  limited-edition beer to support Rotary's eradication efforts. One dollar from all beer sales will go to our End Polio Now campaign. The Evanston Nouveau Rotary Club teamed up with the brewery to produce this beer event. All are welcome.

October is Rotary Economic and Community Development Month

Rotary is advocating Economic and Community Development in the month of October.  Focus will be on the following:
