We hosted District Governor Marlene Frisbie at our November 12 meeting. She spoke of her personal journey to becoming a Rotarian vs being a member which occurred when her Woodstock Rotary Club spearheaded a community wide effort to deliver 1100 holiday meals and gifts to people living below the poverty line. As District Governor for District 6440 (which includes 1870 members in 61 clubs) she spoke of the Rotary Action Plan located on the District 6440 website. The Action Plan includes increasing our impact, expanding our reach to grow and diversify our membership, enhance our member engagement by looking at unique skills our members may have and by increasing our ability to adapt as we did when Covid occurred. She suggested a three year horizon for projects. One of her personal goals is to increase awareness of cervical cancer which is 100% preventable with the HPV vaccine. She noted that men are also impacted by HPV which is connected to throat and oral cancer.
The Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, November 12 was a wonderful celebration of service of one of our members, Bob Taylor. Major Donor Chair Donna Lee Gulley recognized Bob for reaching major donor status in Rotary ($10,000 or more). Bob said he was "deeply humbled and honored." He said he gives because of hunger, homelessness and lack of education in the world. Several District Governors were in attendance for our Club's meeting with District Governor Marlene Frisbee and they joined in honoring Bob. From left to right: Wilmette Rotary Foundation Chair Ray Zeiss, Member Bob Taylor, immediate past District Governor Thor Davidson, current District Governor Marlene Frisbie, former District Governor Lyle Staab, Assistant Governor Jennifer Sultz, former District Governor and Member Sarah Oliver, District Governor Nominee and Member Mariana Alfar, and District Governor Elect Rick Reigner.

We received late notice that Joe Goldstein passed on November 8. We missed his services on November 12, but Joe will be remembered for many years to come. Friends of his donated to our Holiday Fundraiser in memory of Joe, and that is how we found out. Joe Goldstein was a pillar of our club for many years, and beloved by many of us. This remarkable man joined in 1990 and was a very active member, especially with innovative service projects, creative marketing for our fundraisers, and always participated in club events and projects. His obituary can seen at: Joe G
