Installation/Transition Dinner 2023
Our first combined Installation/Transition Dinner was enjoyed by 80 members and guests on June 28.  The setting was the beautiful Sheridan Shores Yacht Club.  The dinner was catered by Depot Nuevo.  Brian Bradley did a wonderful job as emcee for the event.  Highlights of the evening were:
  • Mariana Alfar was sworn in as the 2023-2024 Club President. Her remarks following the installation stressed the importance of member participaton and her openness to new ideas from any and all members.  Mariana will be reaching out to other Rotary Clubs in the area as well to join in projects.
  • George Pearce and Terry Porter gave an overview of how the merger process was initiated and executed.
  • Immediate Past Presidents, John Plante and Brent Hendricks were thanked for their leadership, and each offered some parting remarks.
  • Brent Hendricks was awarded Rotarian of the Year by the morning group; Terry Porter and Debora Morris shared the award from the noon group.
  • New members were acknowledged- Frank Cheswick, Helen Friedman, Ariel Talen-Keller and Mojgan Bowers
  • 2023-2024 Officers and new Board members were announced.

2023/2024 RI President Gordon Mclnally
On July 13, the Rotary Club of Wilmette co-hosted with the Rotary Clubs of Evanston, a presentation by incoming RI President Gordon Mclnally. Our own President, Mariana Alfar, acted as emcee for the event. It was held at the Rotary International headquarters in Evanston. By all accounts, it was a well-attended event and President McInally gave an inspiring address.  He explained the significance of this year's theme, "Create Hope in the world" by working for peace and mental wellbeing. He urges members to engage in tough conversations and earn the trust that’s necessary to realize these values.

He explained that the goal is to restore hope to help the world heal from destructive conflicts and to help achieve lasting change. He emphasized the need for peace and continuity, including work to empower women and work toward diversity, equity, and inclusion, while not neglecting our mission to end polio.

Spoke Notes
Welcome to the first issue for our 81 member Rotary Club of Wilmette.  This newsletter, The Spoke, will be sent to all members (morning, noon and evening), and our website wilmetterotary.org will incorporate info and photos from all our groups.  The merging of information will take a little time, as ClubRunner is not set up at present to accommodate merging all existing data. Brent Hendricks, however, has agreed to send info about the morning group, and any member can send info to debora@pftl.net for inclusion in The Spoke and website.
Welcome!
