Last Week On Tuesday, July 6 at 5:00 pm, Karen Glennemeier, President and Senior Ecologist, Habitat Research LLC, provided a tour of her prairie garden at 719 Laurel Avenue, Wilmette. (The prairie garden is the front yard of 719 Laurel). Karen first discussed the many benefits for nurturing a garden with native plants. She described the steps she went through to install her native prairie garden and the considerations that informed her design. She also she described lessons she has learned over the years in maintaining her prairie garden. The tour included a description of different wildflower species. Among her many achievements in the environmental area, she is one of the of leading advisors for the Elmwood Dunes restoration project and Gillson Park native gardens. Karen's talk and tour was a reminder of how enlightened actions even at a small and personal scale can make a big difference. After the talk and tour members of the Club participated at a reception at Mike Bailey's home at 710 Laurel. July 14 Meeting The next meeting of the Club will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 7:30 am at the Harbor Club. During the course of the pandemic, many Club members have expressed a particularly strong interest and assisting, and working with, local organizations that focus on serving the poor and distressed. Liz and Becca will provide an update of recent developments at Connections for the Homeless. In addition, over the past year, many members of the Club have worked to develop and further the Club's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative.
