We were very pleased that our current Short-term Exchange student from New Trier Shanta Paul, her mother, Swathi and exchange student Carlota Garcia-Ines Cordero from Spain joined our lunch meeting. Carlota recently arrived to her exchange home with Shanta's family and is very excited to be in the US. Shanta will travel to Spain to live with Carlota's family later this summer.
Scott Berman, co-owner/operator of Superdawg drive-ins presented a fascinating and entertaining history of his family's business which was started by his parents in 1948. Currently they have two locations, one in Chicago and one in Wheeling. Scott explained today's operation including how to peel 5000 potatoes every day, and keep them fresh, create greaseless fries, cook all-beef hotdogs, and prepare a variety of sandwiches, ice cream treats and more. He described how his entire family has been involved in the operation at some point. Our members were impressed with Scott's description of his products and his quality control, those who have never been to his drive-ins will be going soon.
Last chance to donate this Rotary Year to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). It would be great if every member is able to contribute $100 this Rotary year. If you can contribute $100, that equates to only 27 cents per day or $1.92 per week. But any contribution is welcomed. Ray Z. or Terry P. will be able to tell each member how far away they are from their next Paul Harris Fellow award (PHF). Rememberpart of your contribution comes back toourClub tohelpfund our service programs. Ray Zeiss has indicated that there are several members who are very close to becoming a Paul Harris Fellow, or adding to their PHF status, with credits from our past EREY contributions. Donations will be matched for those within $500 of reaching the next PHF.
