From DG Mary Bak - The wildfires in Maui have been devastating beyond words, and many are asking how they can help. First, I will repeat the caution you see in so many places – disasters like this often lead to scams, and I encourage you to do your homework carefully before you donate any money. Be sure that you are donating to a reputable cause that will use your money as you anticipate. Rotary District 5000, Hawaii, has established a Maui Fire Relief Fund through their Foundation. You may find all the details at https://rotaryd5000.org/ if you’d like to contribute.
Lynn Cole, Executive Director of RISE International, spoke to our RAD group about the amazing school and well building initiative that RISE has established in Angola. This compelling story had been presented earlier to the Morning and Noon groups, and never fails to impress and inspire our members.
Our Rotary Club with the Glenview Sunrise Rotary Club have helped to fund the building of wells to provide clean water to the rural areas where the schools have been built. Wells at school sites allow for education about the importance of clean water, sanitation, health and nutrition.

A new Assistant Governor (AG) has been assigned to our club, replacing Rich Brill. The District believes that an AG cannot be a member of the club he is assigned to, so Rich could not be our AG. Don Gwinn is a member of the Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club, and serves as their Club Foundation Chair. We hope to meet him soon. AG's serve as a resource to club leadership on all areas pertaining to Rotary information and offering assistance as needed..
District Leadership Academy (DLA) is Back Interested in learning more about Rotary? Want to prepare for a leadership role in your Club or with the District? Enrollment is open for this year's District Leadership Academy. Each month starting in September, we'll focus on a different topic, including membership, public image, and organization. Graduates will be recognized at May's district conference. There is no cost to enroll, except for an investment of 8-10 hours per month - and the more that enroll from your club, the less work for each of you. See the district homepage for more detail. Questions? Contact DLA Dean PDG Lyle Staab or any DLA alumnus.
