At the May 21 morning Rotary meeting, Tricia Mullin, Executive Director for Meals on Wheels, Northeast Illinois gave us a very interesting presentation on this wonderful organization. Our Club provides financial support to Meals on Wheels and some of our members including Beth DeWall are volunteers! Tricia has an impressive history in working and leading a wide variety of programs related to senior citizens. She is also SHIP counselor which stands for Senior Health Insurance Program -- SHIP counselors are volunteers trained to help others navigate medicare and related health insurance programs. Founded in 1968, Meals on Wheels, NE Illinois has their operation in Evanston and more than 250 volunteers assist them with preparing and delivering 800 meals each week. Meals on Wheels prepares and provides home delivered meals as well as meals to congregate sites. She noted that not only do they provide nutritious meals at a very low cost, but they are also the social connection for many recipients.
Remember EREY. Every Rotarian should contribute what they can before the end of this Rotary year, June 30. If you can contribute $100, that equates to only 27 cents per day or $1.92 per week. Ray Z. or Terry P. will be able to tell each member how far away they are from their next Paul Harris Fellow award (PHF). Rememberpart of your contribution comes back toourClub tofund our service programs. Ray Zeiss has indicated that there are several members who are very close to becoming a Paul Harris Fellow, or adding to their PHF status, with credits from our past EREY contributions. Donations will be matched for those within $500 of reaching the next PHF.
