Secretary of State Event -Jan 25
Thanks to Rotary member Irene Paterno (photo below) and her team from the Secretary of State's office, the RealID Moblie Signup was a success. Held at St. Joseph's Community Room, the DMV team was able to issue 35 Real IDs, 3 regular IDs, and several people collectively found about $10K of unclaimed money through Treasurer ICash. Several walk-ins had to be turned away. Brian Bradley coordinated the event, and past president Mariana Alfar stopped by to help.  One attendee was so impressed with the event, she made a donation to our Club's Foundation.

Great Presentation on Medical Miscommunication
George Heinrichs, a health care communications expert, was our guest speaker at the Wednesday, January 22 morning meeting.  His presentation was filled with excellent advice.  He indicated that between 44,000 and 98,000 deaths occur each year due to miscommunications in the health care industry, often between patients and their doctors.  He outlined some helpful solutions to improving communication with medical personnel; for example, ask these three questions if faced with a diagnosis:  a.  What is my main problem? b. What do I need to do? c.  Why is it important for me to do it?  Mr. Heinrichs has written articles and books on this subject -- his latest book is available on Amazon and is called "Did Your Doctor Pass Communications 101? How Miscommunication Endangers Your Life.."
New Member Karl Behrend Inducted!
We were very excited to induct new Rotary Club member Karl Behrend to the Club at Wednesday morning's meeting!  Karl and his wife Grace have already been active with our club, attending sandwich making events and the holiday party.  Welcome Karl!

ShelterBox Update
ShelterBox Update

Don Crost is a ShelterBox Ambassador Team Member for District 6440. Shelterbox celebrates its 25th anniversary. in April.  For a long time, ShelterBox only shipped out aid items inside their iconic green Shelterboxes. However, as they have evolved,  aid is now tailored to better meet the different needs of each community impacted by a disaster.  As a result, they’ve gone beyond the box – and no longer use it   Don will tell us the reasons why they no longer use it:
