Welcome
Ak'Tenamit
Ak' Tenamit is a Guatemalan indigenous community development organization that promotes long-term solutions to poverty through education, health, income generation and cultural programs. Ak'Tenamit operates a boarding school for up to 500 students, located in the rain forest of eastern Guatemala, far from civilization, meaning no access to roads or public utilities.
The Rotary clubs of District 6440 (NE Illinois) devotes much effort in time and dollars to help support the school. The district sponsors two, one-week mission trips each year, during which about 20 Rotarian in each group spend five days devoted to creating new or maintaining existing structures. Many individual Rotarians also donate to The Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund, a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization that provides scholarships to students.
