MEMBER BIO MOMENT: Elias Friedman: grew up in Chicago with stints in Canada, LA & NY. Only found Wilmette in April last year, news to us, they moved here for the schools for their 5th & 8th graders. Married in 2000, he has a motor boat and enjoys golfing. Was an entrepreneur before joining Wells Fargo and works on the 2nd largest team in the city. His boat name….”may contain nuts.”
PROGRAM: Membership ideas & update
George Pearce’s take aways from his meeting: he suggested that a panel of 4 successful clubs would have been valuable to hear from. Some clubs require new member to attend one of these meetings, guest book, important that guests feel welcome, besides the greeter, some clubs assign a floater that also welcomes, partner with the chamber, use chamber mailing list for invites to fundraisers. Shared membership: 1 company membership shared between 4 people and they alternate coming to the meeting. New members receive more orientation, say what committee you will be on and use charter members to understand club history.
Jack Close attended Glencoe meeting and enjoyed it.
Puran attended Skokie and she liked the program on Youth Exchange and they read 1 page on what it means to be a Paul Harris Fellow.
Joyce suggested us joining the Willmette Lunch Club and alternate between lunch and breakfast during the month. Mentioned a club in Seattle that successfully does that.
Both Evanston Clubs are at capacity for Rotary Intl staff: we should invite them here.
Beth went to Northbrook, they had a White Elephant Auction, very successful.
One of their community outreach activities is to collect school supplies for children heading back to school. She met a fellow Rotarian there from Glenview Sunrise which holds now only one event a year and find they get more participation with one main event rather than with multiple yearly fundraisers.
Jim-Lake in the Hills, they do a blanket collection give to shelter and a Rockin Rib Fest and sell sponsorship. 2 easy chairs in the front that people bid on.
Spring Fundraiser:
Cocktail party with light food. Evanston Arts Center hold 250 people and plenty of parking. Alcohol a possibility. Rent $800, plus food and drink costs. Possible Thursday night maybe late April or early May we could do a silent auction.
Dog Show:
Dog Show event at the Wilmette Sidewalk Sale in July. Typically the second weekend. Good support for this idea. Sponsors would be the best way to secure money.
